1912 -2000
Glass engraver, biographer, poet and architectural historian
Revived the art of glass engraving in England, working both on small scale pieces such as goblets, and on memorial panels and windows in churches and institutions.
Won the first King's Gold Medal for Poetry, 1935.
Published books on his glass engravings, collections of his poems, biographies of Sir John Vanbrugh, and of his brother, the artist Rex Whistler, as well as the moving account of his first marriage: The Initials in the Heart.
